Stipe Miocic (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/775/stipe-miocic) is looking outside of the cage for his next challenge.
On Thursday, boxing legend Wladimir Klitschko announced that he would be hanging up the gloves, removing himself from a rematch with current WBA and WBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Miocic, the UFC’s own heavyweight king, took to Twitter to first congratulate Klitschko, and then challenge Joshua to a crossover bout:
This isn’t the first time that the hypothetical fight has been brought up. After Miocic knocked out Junior dos Santos (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/22/junior-dos-santos) to successfully defend his UFC title in May, he said he would be interested in meeting Joshua in the ring someday to prove who “The Baddest Man on the Planet” is.
Joshua is arguably the biggest name in heavyweight boxing right now. The 27-year-old Englishman became the first man in 13 years to KO Klitschko when they fought at Wembley Stadium in London this past April. He recently joked that he doesn’t know who Miocic is, which drew a sharp response from the UFC fighter:
With Klitschko’s withdrawal, Joshua is now expected to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, a matchup that would struggle to generate the same level of interest as a bout between two combat sports world champions. Miocic hasn’t given any indication that he plans to defend his belt until he resolves some contract issues with the UFC, so having a big money boxing match on the table could be just what he needs.
